Binary Stars Modeling
“Binary Stars Modeling” is an educational course on modeling binary stars. In terms of content, it is suitable for both graduates of our previous course.
“Variable Stars Lectures” are for anyone who already has basic knowledge of astronomy and an understanding of the nature of binary star systems.
The goal of the “BSM” course is to explain to students the physics of the processes that occur in binary star systems and to teach them how to model binary stars independently.
In the future, after mastering the theory and reinforcing it through practice, students of the “Binary Stars Modeling” course will be able to carry out scientific research as part of the senior group (the next stage after AstroLab) within the “School of Astronomers” program.
The “BSM” course program includes 10 video lectures, 10 quizzes, and a final test. The learning materials explain complex astrophysical processes in a clear and accessible way. The maximum score for each quiz is 8 points, and for the final test it is 20 points. To receive a certificate, a student must earn 60 or more points. The maximum total score for the course is 100 points.
To continue their studies and join a scientific research project as part of the senior group (after AstroLab), students need to obtain a certificate and complete the Word–Excel special course.
The “BSM” course is more challenging than the “VSL” course: it is not suitable for beginners with limited knowledge of astrophysics. Although the video lectures are short, they include more in-depth material on the topic – for example, formulas and individual calculations.
But for everyone who has already gained the necessary knowledge, the course promises plenty of exciting discoveries!
With us, you will:
■ understand why stars shine;
■ see how their shape and light curve change;
■ learn to model real binary systems – as observed by participants in our research projects.
The “Binary Stars Modeling” course will be fully released by the end of January.
After completing the “BSM” course, you will receive a certificate, broaden and deepen your knowledge of astrophysics, and be able to move on to the senior research group – and more!
You will also get access to our new asteroseismology course! Only students who have joined the senior group can take it.
