ASTROGAMES in Odesa: how did an offline event go?

The event took place in Odesa on July 26 and was devoted to astronomy games. Participants tested and improved their knowledge of space while also learning more about CSF. During the event, 1/6 of our team gathered in person. To discover the impressions and results from both participants and the team – keep reading below!

Organisation

The Head of the Department of Communications, Anastasiia Hetmanenko, and the Head of the Communications Unit, Anastasiia Lukashuk, put great effort into organising this interactive event in Odesa. They created the astronomy games, promoted the event, and served as hosts.

Members of the Science Unit helped prepare the games from a professional perspective, while our designers created posters and prepared gifts such as stickers and postcards. The event was held at the Odesa Regional Scientific Library, named after M Hrushevsky. Special thanks go to the library staff for their support and for allowing us to share the outcomes of our work.

So, how did everything go?

12 out of 17 enthusiasts joined the event!

Over the course of two hours, two teams competed in a variety of games to test and improve their astronomy knowledge. Engaging activities such as puzzles, “Truth or Lie,” and Alias added excitement and led one team to victory. Every participant received prizes and warm thanks from our team for joining.

Attendees were representatives of different age groups, and each found something of value:

“In general, it was fun. If you want to spend your time both enjoyably and meaningfully – I definitely recommend it!”

“Alias and puzzles were interesting, dynamic, and lively – a chance to show your knowledge and wit.”

“CSF + the team “Cosmic Worms” = a wonderful time together. Space, stars, nebulae, and facts about Ukrainian astronomy – all in one quiz. And of course, our team won 🌟!”

Thank you to everyone for your feedback! Your words inspire us to continue improving and creating more opportunities through our offline events.

Mariia Yatsiuk, Head of the Scientific Unit, didn’t miss the opportunity to share about her work. The most attention was drawn to the scientific project “Star Hunters”, where she serves as a mentor. Maria spoke in detail about the initiative, conditions for participation, the results of the first three waves, and the call for the fourth wave.

Participants also made donations to support the technology and equipment for the “NEBULA” unit. For a contribution of 30 UAH, participants received an exclusive set of stickers, and for 50 UAH, they could take part in a raffle for a CSF umbrella.

Team Meeting

One of the highlights was meeting colleagues in person outside of online meetings. Participants came from Lviv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Poltava, and, of course, Odesa. The locals organised a city tour, and everyone celebrated the successful event.

“Although I didn’t personally know most of the team before the event, everyone was delighted to meet me and happily got acquainted just before the start of the event. During the event, I summed up scores for each round of the astro games. It was fascinating to watch participants logically work their way towards the right answers, debate, form hypotheses, and simply enjoy the interaction. It was also very rewarding that our event – organised through the efforts of many departments – helped people, even if just briefly, to step away from today’s reality and embark on a cosmic journey together with the Clear Skies Foundation team! For us, this marks the beginning of the next stage of engaging with our audience,” – Maria Yatsiuk, Head of the Scientific Unit.

“The event was exciting for CSF members too! Together with the Communications team, we formed our own third group to solve riddles and puzzles. I was also glad to finally meet my colleagues in person, walk around Odesa, and chat. I now value and appreciate our friendly team even more,” – Polina, copywriter.

Special thanks go to photographer Daria for the warm photos that will keep our hearts glowing for a long time!
